With some of the best chops in the industry, jazz phenoms STANLEY CLARKE, JEAN-LUC PONTY & AL DiMEOLA came together in 1995 to create the now-classic album The Rite of Strings, followed by a wildly successful tour. Although very busy with individual projects, THE RITE OF STRINGS threesome reconnect for a rare tour showcasing their integrity, musicianship and legendary improv skills, at Glenside's Keswick Theatre on Thurs., Sept. 20, @ 8 PM.
In 1971, as a young teen prodigy from Philly, STANLEY CLARKE's dexterity and complete musicality was immediately recognized in the jazz world. His efforts catapulted him to the front of the stage where his dream manifested first within the company of Chick Corea, Lenny White and Al DiMeola in the Grammy Award-winning jazz-fusion band Return to Forever. CLARKE became the first bassist in history who could double on acoustic and electric bass with equal ferocity, as well as headline tours, selling out shows worldwide. In 1985 he turned his energy to motion pictures and scoring, and now has over 50 film credits, including such iconic films as Boys N The Hood, What's Love Got To Do With It, Passenger 57 and Romeo Must Die. Throughout, he has continued to record, with his latest solo project being 1, 2, to the Bass - a culmination of all his experiences spanning jazz, classical, R&B, pop and rap.
JEAN-LUC PONTY is a pioneer and today's undisputed master of the violin in jazz and rock. He's widely regarded as an innovator who has applied his unique visionary spin that has expanded the vocabulary of modern music. At 21, he cut his first solo album, Jazz Long Playing, followed by a live album, Violin Summit, uniting him on stage with Stephane Grappelli, Svend Asmussen, and Stuff Smith. In '67, PONTY performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival in his first American appearance where he garnered thunderous applause, leading to a U.S. recording contract. He has recorded and/or toured with such notables as Elton John, Frank Zappa and John McLaughlin (performing at the Keswick Sun., Sept. 30). He continues to evolve his virtuosic musicality, unsurpassed by contemporaries.
AL DiMEOLA holds the most prestigious guitar awards of any guitarist, from the highest rated guitar poll in the world, Guitar Player Magazine. He has been known around the globe for the past two and a half decades as one of the most prominent virtuosos in the contemporary instrumental jazz field. His highly celebrated career has spanned a wide range of emotions into a unique style embodying the artist's world-inspired influences. He's recorded and/or played with Chick Corea, Luciano Pavorotti, Paul Simon, John McLaughlin, Paco De Lucia and Santana. He's also released over 21 recordings, including last year's critically acclaimed Consequence of Chaos (Telarc).
