SACO YASUMA'S “ANOTHER RAIN"
(Saco Yasuma, alto saxophone, Xaphoon, compositions;Roy Campbell Jr., trumpet, flugelhorn;Andrew Bemkey, piano, bass clarinet;Ken Filiano, bass;Michael T.A. Thompson, soundrhythium percussion;w/ special guest Golda Solomon, jazz poet) The New York-based saxophonist and composer Saco Yasuma, and her extraordinary ensemble will celebrate her new release, “Another Rain." Saco came to New York from Tokyo in 1989, and has been cultivating her skills in both playing and writing by participating in various types of ensembles, such as Jazz, Salsa, Afro-pop and experimental. The pieces in “Another Rain" are noted for memorable melodies, multi- tonalities and Japanese influences. The ensemble she assembled for this project uniqely interprets her music, and freely develops it in and out of time, form and harmony. Each musician brings certain gifts that are woven into a cohesive expression of spirit.

8:30PM DAN MCCARTHY TRIO FEATURING MYRON WALDEN
(Dan McCarthy, vibraphone;Myron Waldan, piano;Dan Loomis, bass;Dave Brophy, drums)
Dan McCarthy was born in Toronto, Ontario, in August of 1980. After college, Dan stepped on to the Toronto jazz scene full time, having already become a veteran playing at some of Canada's top venues. In August 2004, Dan made the move to New York, where his career continues to grow. Dan is now one of the most original -sounding and sought-after vibraphonists in North America.
Recently, Dan has just completed his debut record, INTERWORDS, which includes trio members Matt Wigton on bass and Greg Ritchie on drums, and features saxophonist Myron Walden. Drawing on such varied influences as Gary Burton, Mos Def, John Mayer, Damien Rice, and Brad Mehldau, INTERWORDS gives the listener something that most records these days lack; jazz melodies with a pop music approach. Shorter songs , with catchy melodies that are still harmonically complex and interesting to even the most trained ear are featured on this album. His “Short Stories" are 30 second pieces that are designed to pique the listener's attention and leave them wanting more.
With his music, Dan is trying to bring jazz back to the masses. With heavy influences in pop, folk, and hip-hop, Dan crosses musical barriers in an attempt to bring the listener exactly what they want to hear: something different, and something fresh.
