Belmont, http://www.emergingimprovisers.org), the Lucky 7s will perform with special invited guests. These will be the band's first Chicago performances since September 2006. The performances will include brand new material, as well as selections from their critically acclaimed CD “Farragut."

The Lucky 7s are: Jeb Bishop (trombone), Jeff Albert (trombone and tuba), Josh Berman (cornet), Keefe Jackson (tenor sax and bass clarinet), Jason Adasievicz (vibes), Matthew Golombisky (bass), and Quin Kirchner (drums). The group was conceived, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, as a meeting of some of New Orleans' and Chicago's finest young improvising musicians. Jeff Albert is the only member of the band that still resides in the New Orleans area.

Press Quotes:

“...one moment their attractive melodies coast on vigorously swinging rhythms, the next they tumble in a free improv freefall." -Bill Meyer in Downbeat

“... Lucky 7s is actually several bands in one: It's a harmonically rich free jazz unit inspired by the Sun Ra Arkestra, a bop-oriented ensemble with warm “head" arrangements and a texture-minded group that thrives on the quiet cool of Jason Adasiewicz's vibes. You can hear second-line New Orleans beats in the mix, as well, ..." - Lloyd Sachs in Chicago Sun-Times

“The ensemble plays a raucous, yet controlled form of Jazz that has some of the joy of old New Orleans style yet is thoroughly Post-Bop in its inflections." - G.A. Edwards in Cadence

“...beautiful, yet raucous energy..." - Jay Collins in Signal to Noise
