A voice that's a knowing mix of honey, steel and gravel..... Her voice vibrating over the lyrics in a way that makes your toes curl'. The Observer

In anticipation of the release of her new album 'Between Me & The Wardrobe' Gwyneth returns to Blackheath Halls with long time musical partners pianist Steve Holness, bassist Sam Burgess and percussionist Dave Price.

'Between Me and the Wardrobe' is the new album from critically acclaimed English jazz folk songstress Gwyneth Herbert. Just turned 25, it's her third and most personal album, released on EMI in May. It was born out of the realization that she wanted to sing her own songs, rather than be renowned as an interpreter of other people lyrics. It's a journey that many artists have made, and Herbert finds herself part of a wave of young musicians who are re-examining the artificial boundaries between genres. Currently only available fat gigs or on her website the album will receive a 'full' release next year.

Produced by Seb Rochford (Polar Bear, Acoustic Ladyland and Fulborn Taversham) and recorded by Robert Harder (Baby Shambles, the Littl'uns and Acoustic Ladyland), Between Me And The Wardrobe draws on a diverse pool of influences including Janis Ian, Dorothy Parker, Arthur Miller and Rufus Wainwright. Herbert's songs are touching, powerful and often witty stories and observations, and her poetic tales make this her finest album yet.

“Not a jazz singer in the strictest sense of the word, Herbert has more in common with the singer-songwriters of the Joni Mitchell era. But she possesses a flawless sense of swing, a jazz improviser's ear for detail and her superb new trio generate backdrops that are as seductive as anything you will hear. While her voice is a thing of beauty" The Times
