Guest artists: Geri Allen (Piano) and Andy Bey (Vocals)

Jazz pianist and educator Geri Allen, who hails from Detroit, Michigan, knew she wanted to be a jazz musician after spending most of her childhood listening to her father's jazz records. She now plays some of the best jazz spots in New York, Los Angeles and across Europe. Geri has worked with many of the greats of modern jazz, including Dave Holland, Ron Carter, Tony Williams, Jack DeJohnette, Ornette Coleman and Betty Carter. She cites her primary influences to be Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock and Bill Evans.

“The great jazz singer and pianist Andy Bey has a voice that comes in at least three sections. The lower end is an aggressive blues bark that delivers scat improvisations in abruptly phrased volleys. At the top is an exotic, swerving falsetto. But it is Mr. Bey's middle register that defines his sound. A mellow, crooning baritone with a voluptuously rounded vibrato, it is a film noir voice: languid, mysterious and surpassingly beautiful"
