When Tony and I first started presenting Jazz at Listen & Be Heard Poetry Cafe a couple years ago now, we were the ones making all the phone calls and convincing musicians to play in our venue for a new audience. Now, after many a Saturday featuring jazz greats like Babatunde Lea, Howard Wiley, Calvin Keys and many others, we are getting phone calls from musicians who have heard that at Listen & Be Heard Poetry Caf they have available an intimate, practically acoustic setting where an appreciative audience actually listens to them. What a concept! It's enough, apparently because the Atmos Trio wants to play here and we are happy to be presenting them for the first time. With a kick-ass CD that's been garnering some critical acclaim, they will play some of the same original compositions and I'm sure will have some surprises too. The CD will be available for sale and signing. Here's what Atmos Trio has to say about themselves.

The members of the San Francisco Bay area's Premier Jazz Guitar trio: The Atmos Trio are all world-class musicians and educators. Having hired their services out to other musical projects in every conceivable musical style for years, was in 2004 that the trio decided to pursue their own muse. The result is a cohesive signature “group" sound presented in these original compositions. The Atmos Trio blend unexpected harmonic and tonal shifts with stunning solo and ensemble improvisations. Audience reactions have been overwhelmingly positive-- exclaiming: “Finally! Where have you been?" Contemporary Jazz that enjoys cross-over success to Jazz, World and Jam Band audiences, the 2006 debut CD “Atmos Trio" is enjoying radio play and critical acclaim across the US and Europe. Influences include Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Richard Bona, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, John Scofield, Bill Frisell, Weather Report, and Tribal Tech.
