The Sunday Night Jazz at the Press Rooms series presents the Mark Kleinhaut Trio on November 12. This is the trio's final performance in New England before its leader guitarist Mark Kleinhaut heads off to a new gig in Cleveland Ohio. The trio will say farewell to their loyal fans with their trademark high energy performance and some special selections from their eclectic repertoire, including music from the trio's fifth CD, Holding the Center. Holding the Center was released in May '06 to great reviews and national media attention, including being added to the rotation of Jim Wilke's nationally syndicated program Jazz After Hours.

The Mark Kleinhaut Trio, consisting of composer/guitarist Kleinhaut , Jim Lyden (bass) and Les Harris Jr. (drums), has a highly developed sound and dynamic chemistry that results from years of playing music together. The inspiration for Kleinhaut's compositions comes from the places he visits, like the colorful villages of Southern Cuba or the wild places on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Designed around beautiful melodies, Kleinhaut uses his compositions to paint vivid pictures of his travels, and the engaging musical interplay between Kleinhaut, Lyden, and Harris becomes the vehicle that transports the listener to these exotic locales. Over the past few years Jazz aficionados have come to expect a lot from this group: they recorded and performed with Tiger Okoshi and Bobby Watson (both amazing horn players), had their last recording, A Balance of Light, make it into the top 20 on the national jazz radio charts, and toured Europe. Certainly Kleinhaut's defection to Cleveland will be a loss to the New England Jazz scene.

Randy McElligott, of jazzreview.com says, “Kleinhaut takes all kind of chances, swinging hard along the way. His ability to explore and create in the moment is undeniable. What sets him apart is his determination to keep the music original while at the same time having fun."

The Mark Kleinhaut Trio performs at the Press Room, 77 Daniel Street, Porsmouth, NH on Sunday, November 12 at 6 p.m. Don't miss the opportunity to say farewell to one of the regions top jazz groups. For more information call 603-431-5186.
