Jazz pianist Marc Sabatella balances a profound sense of lyricism with a dynamic, adventurous streak. For his latest CD “Falling Grace", Marc has chosen a set of standards and lesser-known jazz compositions that deserve to and may yet become standards in their own right. The performances are beautiful and joyous examples of mainstream piano playing, drawing from the traditions of musicians like Bill Evans, Thelonious Monk, Oscar Peterson, and Don Pullen.

Marc Sabatella is perhaps best known as the author of the popular educational text “A Jazz Improvisation Primer" and for his association with trumpeter Hugh Ragin. Marc's new CD “Falling Grace" features his regular trio, who have been working together for ten years and won the1996 Cognac-Hennessy Best of Colorado Jazz Search. “Falling Grace" is the fourth CD that Sabatella has recorded as a leader or co-leader, but the first he has released on the new “Outside Shore Music" label. Some comments from the press on Marc's previous efforts:

**** - Pianist Marc Sabatella put together a highly entertaining and eclectic set of some outstanding music. This fellow just cannot be pigeonholed: his imagination is broad ... Sabatella's keyboards absorb a variety of styles, too, and the pianist as comfortable with the avant-garde as with hard bop.
-- The All-Music Guide

Hitting deep tones, sparkling highs, and mesmerizing runs, he takes you on a journey into his world full or richly textural music ... Sabatella has combined intelligent playing with extremely compatible performers to fashion a distinctive recording.
-- Cadence Magazine

Innovative interpretations ... exceptional performance ... Sabatella is a forceful dynamic pianist creating music of the same intensity.
-- Coda Magazine

Finally, a note from Marc Sabatella:

“Standards have always been a major part of the repertoire of any jazz musician, myself included. And like most pianists, I often play in a trio setting with bass and drums. While my previous recordings focused mostly on my own fairly challenging original material in a variety of different types of ensembles, I decided it was time I released a CD of music more like what I actually perform regularly in clubs. So I gathered my longtime musical associates, bassist Erik Turkman and drummer Tom Van Schoick, and recorded something resembling a typical set of music by the Marc Sabatella Trio. We enjoyed playing this music, and hope you enjoy listening to it."
