The Brian Charette Organ Sextette is in the UK for one night only as part of a major European tour. Brian Charette is a New York-based Grammy-nominated, Hammond endorsed, SteepleChase and Posi-Tone recording artist who has been playing to sold out shows across Europe.

He will be performing on Wednesday 23 April 2014 at Pizza Express on Dean Street, Soho, with his UK based band members; Gareth Lockrane on flute, Sam Mayne on alto sax, Osian Roberts on tenor sax, James Allsopp on bass clarinet, and Matt Fishwick on drums. Brian’s Sextette is a unique combination of jazz chamber group with greasy Harlem organ Joint and a classical wind ensemble.

“It is a wild romp, during which I will introduce reggae, funk, and even heavy metal into my organ grooves randomly across the set,” says Brian, “we play difficult music but with a wink. I'm in the back screaming instructions to my group to do unusual improvised things… its a whole heap of fun”.

Brian Charette has for the last two years been placed second in the Downbeat Critic's Poll in the Rising Star: Organ category and has been covered in numerous music magazines including Downbeat, Keyboard, Muzikus (CZ), and The NYC Jazz Record.

He has recently released two albums, Positone, with his trio, and Sextette SteepleChase, both to rave reviews.

Brian Charette is out to prove that the Hammond B3 ain’t just for flexing your fink chops. His latest CD serves as a demo reel of the divergent directions the soul jazz standby can explore. Sean Brady, Downbeat

Charette is the consummate road-warrior, and he has the scars to prove it. His pulpy organ sound has backed such disparate artists as soul-jazz legend Lou Donaldson and scarf-draped dandy Rufus Wainwright…. Charette has a controlled sound on the organ, taking a classic approach to both technique and instrumentation with his bands. His nimble lines follow in the footsteps of B3 masters like Jimmy Smith and Dr. Lonnie Smith. His patience and deliberation led WBGO tastemaker Josh Jackson to declare Charette a “master of space and time. Sean O’ Connell, LA Weekly
