Whatever happened to Big Band music after Glenn Miller? Vince Scuderi knows. His Out of the Box Big Band aims to introduce audiences to the big sounds of Oliver Nelson, Thad Jones and Sammy Nestico. While not completely avoiding the classics, (Charlie Barnett included), it's the more modern, sophisticated language that Vince and his band mates swing to. OOTBBB recently recorded at Nola Recording Studios in 2013. The recording is a sampler of their eclectic style. It includes Nelson's “Hoedown", a mesmerizing “James “ by Pat Metheny and the fun and retro inspired “Mercy" by British recording artist, Duffy.

Out of the Box Big Band consists of a rotating line-up of seasoned, professional and up and coming NY jazz talent. Their combined experience runs the gamut from Broadway to Buble. Musicians include: Mark Cohen, Ryan Blake, Jim Dragovich, Bill Valicenti, Al Zimmerman and Napoleon Revels-Bey.

Vince's special guest is critically acclaimed jazz singer, Martha Lorin.

As heard on our stage last year, Martha is an exciting performer. She is the winner of a Bistro Award for her NY appearances, a Billboard award winner for her work as a songwriter, and she received a special award for her work with the Milford Music Festival. She was coached by the great singer/actress, Ruth Etting at the start of her career. Martha has graced the stages of Weill Hall @ Carnegie Hall, The Hungry I, The Gardenia, The Plush Room, Town Hall, Don't Tell Mama's, Green Mill and Catch 35 in Chicago, Apollo Theater, South Bend Jazz Festival and Trio's Jazz Club and Hotel Kitano, to name a few.

Martha's recordings include: The Best is Yet To Come (produced by Henry Lewy and Martha Lorin); The Time is Now (produced by Martha Lorin) , I'll Remember You/Tribute to Ella - with the late Paul Smith, Ella's longtime musical director/pianist (produced by Jack Globenfelt), Come Walk with Me (featuring Fareed Haque, Leon Joyce, Larry Gray, Von Freeman and Eddie DeHass); Blues Over Broadway - co-produced/arranged by Russ Kassoff - featuring Larry Gray, Leon Joyce and Curtis Robinson, and her latest release “Don't Slam That Door"; a re-mastered collections of rare songs, demos, and songs that cover her 35 year recording career. (Last Three Recordings produced by Lampkin Music Group).

“Blues Over Broadway” is the pick of the week on “Everything Old is New Again" with David Kenney." —David Kenny, WBAI-FM, New York

“Lorin’s warm contralto caresses the classics. No one can duplicate Ella’s incomparable style, but your ears relish this elegant homage.” —Dave Burns, Jazz Times
