ARE YOU THE NEXT GREAT JAZZ MUSICIAN?

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR NEW GENERATION AWARD 2013

Music Network invites applications for the NEW GENERATION AWARD 2013, a unique professional development programme designed to assist a selected group of Ireland's brightest young musicians at the beginning of their professional career. The award this year is open to young Irish jazz groups with between two and five members.

The deadline for applications is 5:00 pm on Monday 23 September.

Previous jazz ensembles to receive the award (formerly known as Young Musicwide) were Organics (2004), Trihornophone (2007), and most recently Lauren Kinsella's Thought-Fox (2010). According to Kinsella, “Thought-Fox learned a great deal on the programme and have been given some wonderful opportunities to perform and tour our music and to release our debut CD. It is vital that emerging improvising artists continue to receive assistance in their careers and now more than ever, there are so many roles that one needs experience in to be a successful musician and performer. Music Network provides this crucial support."

Through an audition process in November, an Irish or Ireland-based jazz group, focused on pursuing a career in performance, will be selected to participate in the programme.

The main features of the award are:

Performance opportunities with Music Network promoters in Ireland with an agreed fee and expenses

Subsidized production of a professional CD

Marketing tools such as professional photo-shoot, print materials and a promotional film

Training opportunities eg. masterclasses/workshops

Inclusion on any Music Network continuing professional development courses

Professional support and advice towards the development of participants’ careers as professional musicians

Voice and piano duo Ailish Tynan and Deborah Kelleher (2002)
