12th Edition Of The Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival Starts In 5 Weeks With Record Number Of Artists, Concerts And Venues

Rochester, NY— May 13, 2013— The nine-day 12th Edition of the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival starts in just 39 days, June 21-29, delivering  a record number of concerts, and more than 1200 artists performing at 19 venues and outdoor stages.

They join more than 1200 artists from around the world who will perform in 280 concerts including more than 75 free shows. Now one of the world’s largest jazz festivals with one of the nation’s most extensive international lineups, last year’s festival drew more than 187,000 people from around the world and across the U.S.

“We've learned that music lovers truly enjoy artistic discovery and our nine-day voyage into the musical unknown,” said John Nugent, Producer and Artistic Director. “As we always say, it’s not who you know, it’s who you don't know.”

Concert Schedule: No tickets required for free shows. 19 Venues: all within walking distance, concert and recital halls, clubs, and free outdoor stages

Highlights

Several concerts to be recorded live to air nationwide on PBS television stations. This will be the 5th season for PBS shows recorded at the festival’s Kilbourn Hall venue in the Club Pass Series.

New Jazz Workshops for Aspiring Music Students - five structured jazz workshops will be hosted by Bob Sneider, Eastman School of Music Asst.  Professor of Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media and led by five visiting international musicians perform at XRIJF in the Made in the UK Series.

The 12th XRIJF Eastman School of Music Jazz Scholarship will be awarded. More than $120,000 in scholarships has been provided to almost 30 Eastman School of Music students since 2002.

6th Anniversary of Made in the UK concert series, now the largest presentation of British jazz outside of the United Kingdom.

The first retrospective photo exhibit of images taken at the festival since 2002 will be on exhibit at the Center for High Falls Fine Art Gallery May 23 - June 30.

New shuttle bus service offered running from parking garages to and from the festival.
