WAYNE SHORTER: ZERO GRAVITY A DOCUMENTARY ON ONE OF THE GREATEST LIVING JAZZ LEGENDS IS TO BE RELEASED IN 2014

The inception of ZERO GRAVITY began in 2006 and principal photography is now in progress. A Pledge Music Campaign for a limited time will launch on April 20 2013. By pledging funds towards the completion of the film, fans will receive unique rewards corresponding with their pledge level. These rewards include everything from autographed items, concert tickets, Wayne’s artwork, a voice mail recording with Wayne and Esperanza Spalding to a private dinner with Wayne and Herbie Hancock.

ZERO GRAVITY is an intimate portrait of Wayne Shorter, a musical genius who has influenced music for over six generations. Wayne Shorter continues to break through the imposed limitations of Jazz with even more innovative compositions and recordings than he has achieved in the last 50 years. He is a great example of an artist who humbly balances his life and artistry.

“A film has never documented Shorter's prolific life and career until now. This is the year to celebrate Wayne Shorter's life and musical legacy as he turns 80 years old and breaks new ground with “Zero Gravity,” and his long commitment to effecting social change through his own human revolution by way of his Buddhist practice.” – Dorsay Alavi, director of Zero Gravity

The ZERO GRAVITY documentary will capture concerts with the Wayne Shorter Quartet, collaborations with fellow artists and international orchestras. Interviews with friends and family will reveal personal aspects of Shorter's life. Archival footage will support his life history and career as a jazz composer/ musician with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, The Miles Davis Quintet and Weather Report. His visual art (paintings and comic books) and his love for American cinema and science-fiction and fantasy novels will be woven into the documentary.

ZERO GRAVITY is his approach to improvisation as an authentic and democratic process of creating boundless music without any rigid rules or attachment to a particular outcome. “It is the ability to detach oneself from anything that holds one hostage beyond a time allowed,” says Shorter. “You decide the time allowed.” This is not a common practice in what is referred to as “Jazz." Shorter boldly defies limitations in music and in life. For him, jazz means “I dare YOU.”
