will be performing at the next edition of Emmanuel Baptist Church’s highly popular Jazz Vespers series. He will be bringing his unique hard-swinging, straight-ahead style to a diverse audience of true jazz lovers. The Jazz Vespers service will take place in its standing home at the historic Emmanuel Baptist Church, 279 Lafayette Avenue, located in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn, New York, on April 28, 2013 at 3:00 PM.

Currently in its 2nd year, the Jazz Vespers series has built a following of jazz lovers around New York City and Brooklyn, and continues to secure well-respected jazz musicians that bring an unmistakable feeling of celebration for God and the jazz art form. This year, Jazz Vespers also has the pleasure of taking place in the same month as Emmanuel Baptist Church’s 132nd anniversary and being a part of the 14th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival presented by the Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium.

The theme of the service is: “Experience the Presence of God through the sound of Jazz” featuring The Wycliffe Gordon Quartet. The Wycliffe Gordon Quintet consists of Aaron Diehl

According to Reverend Norm Freeman, the Jazz Vespers service is itself a synthesis of several traditions, each finding a unifying voice through the unique musical heritage that we called jazz. “This is an outstanding opportunity for everyone from our New York City community to worship in a relaxed setting and find God in the spacious freedom of jazz music. It is a musical tradition that gives us a voice to the hopes, dreams, frustrations and pain that expresses the human experience. Simply put, Jazz is the musical incense that collects and carries the prayers of a people.” stated Reverend Anthony L. Trufant, Senior Pastor, Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Outside of this service, Emmanuel Baptist Church’s Jazz Vespers performances are typically held on every 5th Sunday.
