Usdan, with expanded Jazz Program, Holds Open House 3/17

Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, the nationally renowned New York area summer arts camp, will hold an Open House on Sunday March 17 from 11 AM to 2 PM on its 200-acre woodland campus.

Usdan's Jazz Department, founded in 1986 by Dr. Billy Taylor, has expanded this year to include three separate performance ensembles: Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced. No audition needed for most courses.

Performers and master class teachers at Usdan have included Jane Monheit, Jimmy Heath, Arturo O'Farrill, Jon Faddis, Marian McPartland, Randy Brecker, Bobby Watson and Clark Terry.

Usdan Center is located in the Huntington area of Long Island at 185 Colonial Springs Road in Wheatley Heights. 1500 children ages 6-18 from New York City and throughout the Tri-State Area annually attend, transported by air-conditioned buses. Aoubt one-third of students attend on scholarship.

Families who cannot make the Open Houses may make appointments for other days.
