Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, the renowned summer arts day camp with an expanded Jazz Dept. for 2013, will hold free Open Houses on Wednesday February 20 and Sunday February 24, each from 11 AM to 2 PM. Attended annually by more than 1500 students ages 6-18 from New York City and throughout the Tri-State Area, transported by air-conditioned buses, Usdan is located on a magnificent 200-acre woodland campus in the Huntington area of Long Island. About one-third of students attend on scholarship.

Usdan's Jazz Dept., created in 1986 by Dr. Billy Taylor, will now include three separate jazz ensembles — for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced (increased from an Advanced level ensemble only). Each ensemble will have the opportunity to perform in Usdan's 1,000-seat McKinley Ampitheater.

In addition, Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Jane Monheit will be Visiting Faculty for 2013.

Ms. Monheit, a Usdan alumna, has performed at the Center many times, and given master classes and workshops. The jazz stars who have performed and taught at the Center include Jimmy Heath, Arturo O'Farrill, Jon Faddis, Marian McPartland, Randy Brecker, Bobby Watson, Clark Terry and Dr. Billy Taylor.

For more information, contact Usdan Center at 212-772-6060.
