Young jazz storyteller Shoshana Bush will make her third appearance at Catalina Jazz Club on January 3, 2013. Titled “Shoshana Bush and Friends," this performance will be recorded live for an upcoming debut album. Showtime is at 8:30 pm, doors open at 7pm. Reserve now by calling: 323.466.2210.

Shoshana will perform her own arrangements of (mainly) American Jazz and Blues standards with her band, which includes Isamu McGregor on piano, guitarist Larry Koons, George Young on alto sax and flute, bassist David Robaire and drummer Gene Coye. The singer has made two previous sold-out appearances at the iconic Hollywood venue.

Shoshana’s delicate looks and stature belie a fierce commitment to the simple narrative at the heart of these classic songs, which include “Since I Fell for You,” “The Man I Love,” and “Star Crossed Lovers.” But an intense multi-genre love of music also extends from her jazz influences (Nina Simone, Blossom Dearie, Art Blakey and Ahmad Jamal among them) to electronica and beyond. She has other ongoing projects: a vibrant L.A. based dance collaboration called Blue Green Gray with singer/songwriter Billy Bodine exploring jazz, pop and house with lyrics by Shoshana; and Ice Age, through which she channels her inner rapper. These ensembles have played Central S.A.P.C.

A native Angelano who lives in New York, Shoshana holds a degree in Jazz Studies from Columbia University. Her off campus work included study with George Lewis, Christine Correa and Barry Harris, as well as workshops with Tierney Sutton and Jane Monheit. Fully immersed in the city’s jazz scene, she plays frequently all around town from swank spots to jazz joints, including Birdland, Ella, Caffé Vivaldi and Nuyorican Poets Café.
