Featuring Marcus Printup, trumpet, Chad Eby, Saxophones, Austin Johnson, piano, and Dave Potter, drums, Will Goble's first effort as a leader explores swing, group interaction, and diverse rhythms and feelings within the eleven included tracks. Will's writing is not overly cluttered or ornamented, but concise and clear, with a focus on strong melodic statements. Eby and Printup shine through out; their solos and dialogue bring an aspect of storytelling to the forefront of each song, with ample support from Potter, Johnson, and Goble. The album draws from many influences, including early New Orleans music, modern jazz from the 80s and early 90s, Thelonious Monk and other giants of the 20th century, and the band members' own writing as well. Recorded “live" with out edits or overdubs, “Some Stories Tell No Lies" is full of energy and excitement, proudly wearing imperfection on its sleeve.
