Pianist Andy Kahn, drummer Bruce Klauber, bassist Bruce Kaminsky and saxophonist Asher Stein comprise “The All-Star Jazz Quartet," a hard-swinging group of veterans—save newcomer Stein—who will be appearing at Chris' Jazz Cafe in Philadelphia on Thursday, December 13th. Shows begin at 7 p.m. and tickets are $10, $5 for students. Chris' is located at 1421 Sansom Street. For further information, call 215-568-3131 or visit chrisjazzcafe.com.

Kahn, Klauber and Kaminsky have been playing jazz professionally—just about everywhere and with just about everyone—for almost 150 years. Combined, of course. In addition to being a superb and original pianist, Kahn is also known as a recording artist and hitmaker, responsible for the number one dance hit, “Hot Shot." Klauber, a hard-swinger in the Buddy Rich mold, is also the biographer of Gene Krupa, producer of the Warner Brothers DVDs on Krupa, Rich and many others; Jazz Bridge PR director; and producer for the Barcelona-based Fresh Sound record label. Bassist Kaminsky, who remains one of the most sought-after players in the east, is the inventor and manufacturer of the widely used—and acclaimed—upright/electric, KYDD bass.

Though Asher Stein may be a relative youngster, his tenor and also style recalls legends like Zoot Sims and Ben Webster, with touches of modernism.

We only guarantee one thing: We'll be swinging.
