The University of Miami Frost School of Music is pleased to present Festival Miami 2012—Florida’s premier live music festival. Now in its 29th season, Festival Miami features a diverse blend of exciting performers showcasing their talents alongside brilliant students and faculty artists.

The dynamic program includes 20 concerts organized into four themes: Great Performances, featuring legendary artists and captivating repertoire; Creative American Music, a mélange of contemporary music, from Broadways stars to talented young composers; Jazz and Beyond, guaranteed to open your ears and engage your senses; and Music of the Americas, a musical immersion encompassing two hemispheres. In addition, visiting artists conduct free lectures and master classes to share their insight with audiences. Festival Miami begins October 2 and concludes November 4.

“Jazz and Beyond” concerts feature some of the world’s finest jazz musicians. On October 9, saxophonist Dave Liebman plays with the high-intensity Frost Concert Jazz Band. Triple-crown winner in DownBeat’s 59th Annual Critics Poll, pianist Jason Moran brings his unique blend of traditional jazz and modern elements on October 24 with his award winning group, Jason Moran & The Bandwagon. On October 25, Roseanna Vitro performs songs from her Grammy nominated CD The Music of Randy Newman with the Frost School’s DownBeat award winning JV1 ensemble. The series is rounded out by a tribute to Nat “King” Cole on November 2, featuring vocal stylist and guitarist George Benson, with his band and the Frost School’s stellar Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. The concert will also include many of the songs from Cole's classic albums interpreted by his younger brother Freddy Cole—an international jazz favorite.
