Newport Beach, California, Jazz Party, Feb. 16-19, 2012, Schedules An Array of Jazz Stars, Playing Over Four Days

Big bands and an array of jazz greats will be featured at the 11th Annual Newport Beach Jazz Party, February 16 through 19, at the Marriott Hotel in Newport Beach, California. This yearly event brings in fans from around the world, many of whom stay in the hotel to better appreciate all the music.

Kicking off the Valentine's/Presidents Day weekend event on Thursday at 8, will be famed Cuban trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and his all-star orchestra. They will be followed at 9:30 by a tribute to jazz greats: BASIE, BENNY & BUDDY BIG BANDS. An orchestra of jazz stars will be conducted by reed player Ken Peplowski and will feature drummer Butch Miles

In total, over 80 artists are scheduled to appear in a variety of settings and groupings over the four days. There will be morning jazz brunches, afternoon pool-side concerts and evening programs in the hotel's Grand Ballroom. In addition, cocktail and after-hours sessions are scheduled.

Friday evening , trombonist James Morrison leads a quintet, starring saxophonist Houston Person, pianist Eric Reed, bassist Chuck Berghofer and drummer Jeff Hamilton. This is followed by a Tribute to Oscar Peterson, starring Marian Petrescu, world famous Rumanian pianist. Rounding out the night will be vocalist Mary Stallings and the Eric Reed Trio. Concluding the bill will be saxophonist Harry Allen's FOUR OTHERS- A Tribute to Woody Herman.

On Saturday in the Grand, organist Tony Monaco will ratchet up the sound with the help of saxophonist Scott Hamilton and drummer Hamilton. After which, the program includes vocalist Frank D'Rone with his group and the esteemed Jeff Hamilton Trio with pianist Tamir Hendelman and bassist Christoph Luty.

Closing night Sunday, will present the renowned Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra which will includes singer Ernie Andrews. In addition that night, pianist Petrescu will perform in solo, followed by comedian Pete Barbutti and his entourage.
