SCOTT FOSTER MANAGEMENT provides representation for superb jazz artists ADA ROVATTI, ARLEE LEONARD, PATRIZIA SCASCITELLI, and JAMIE BAUM

Music industry veteran SCOTT FOSTER has announced the formation of a new artist management organization, SCOTT FOSTER MANAGEMENT, with a unique spotlight on female jazz artists. Scott Foster's many years in the jazz festival business make him ideally positioned to understand the relationships between performers, audiences, media, and the business interests of concert presenters. His artist management services include concert booking, publicity, recording, publishing, music licensing, endorsements, and strategies for career development.

SCOTT FOSTER is an expert in the concert and festival business thanks to his experiences with its greatest masters in a two-decade career with Festival Productions, Inc., producer/promoter of the famous Newport jazz and folk festivals, JVC Jazz Festival New York, and many other international festivals and concert tours. Scott's next step was an appointment as a senior vice president of The Festival Network, LLC, the company that acquired the rights to produce the festivals from Festival Productions, Inc. in 2007. The music world was stunned when Festival Network broke up after only two years, and since then Scott has served as a consultant for New Festival Productions, LLC, a new company that reunited the management of Festival Productions, Inc. and rescued the Newport festivals.

In addition to artist management, SCOTT FOSTER MANAGEMENT offers management consulting, publicity, contract negotiations, and financial services to corporate music industry clients, as well as the development of opportunities for cross-promotional partnerships, sponsorships, recordings, and music for films and television.

On the management roster:
  • Ada Rovatti, jazz saxophonist, composer, and leader of Green Factor and The Ada Rovatti Quartet
  • Arlee Leonard, jazz/neo-soul vocalist, songwriter, and leader of The Arlee Leonard Group
  • Patrizia Scascitelli, jazz pianist, composer, and leader of The Patrizia Scascitelli Sextet
  • Jamie Baum, jazz flutist, composer, and leader of The Jamie Baum Septet
ADA ROVATTI is one of the fastest rising young jazz saxophonists on the scene today. Her mastery of tenor and soprano saxophones takes center stage in each of her two current bands, Green Factor and The Ada Rovatti Quartet. Ada has arrived.

Green Factor's melting pot of jazz, Celtic, groove, and fusion elements is full of cleverly twisted, adventurous, and intriguing musical choices that demonstrate Ada's talents as a composer and arranger. Green Factor matches Ada with an unusual instrumentation including the Uilleann bagpipes and pennywhistles of Ivan Goff, and the violin (both electrified and acoustic) of the great Christian Howes. Pianist Oli Rockberger contributes occasional vocals, and electric bassist Janek Gwizdala and drummer Lionel Cordew anchor the group. Their new CD, Green Factor (Piloo Records) quickly entered the top 50 for U.S. jazz radio airplay, and has received glowing reviews. “The novel blend of Celtic, straight-ahead and funk of Green Factor is an immediately accessible and engaging set of sounds, one that holds up to, and demands, repeated spins," wrote Dan McClenaghan in All About Jazz. JazzImprov noted that “(Rovatti) taps the Celtic songbook the way jazz musicians have done with the American equivalent for a century: her breezy, green melodies are subjected to all manner of dissection, be it with a pop-, funk- or avant-garde-tempered blade."

The Ada Rovatti Quartet is a more traditional jazz setting that allows Ada to showcase her straight-ahead, swinging improvisations, her work as a composer, and her enduring love of jazz standards from many eras. Her CD releases have included jazz giants such as Randy Brecker, Bob Mintzer, Mike Stern, and Don Alias. Ada's newest CD in this more mainstream jazz environment is Airbop (Kindred Rhythm Records.)

Ada's recording credits also include the Grammy-winning Randy Brecker CD, 34th 'N Lex (Best Contemporary Jazz Album), and Mahavishnu Orchestra guitarist John McLaughlin's Industrial Zen.

ARLEE LEONARD is a jazz/neo-soul vocalist and songwriter whose crossover appeal expands the loyal fan base that she established as a virtuosic, improvising jazz artist. She is one of the truly elite vocalists performing today. “Her voice crackles with life...Arlee has many talents, and is not afraid to use them," says John Barrett, Jr., in JazzImprov.

The Arlee Leonard Group is a sizzling showcase for Arlee's unique 4-octave range, pure tone, tasteful interpretations, and swinging scat solos. The band's music flows easily from jazz standards to grooving originals in which she shares her stories and outlook on life. Arlee embodies the essence of a soulful singer-songwriter as she weaves moods with blues, bossa novas, ballads, New Orleans favorites, the classic style of jazz singers like Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan, and covers of popular songs she loves.

Arlee's CD, Wild Honey (SolaJazz Records) includes seven originals and distinctive arrangements of five classics by some of her favorite composers. Arlee assembled some of New York's finest talent for the recording, including Don Braden, Marcus Printup, Miri Ben-Ari, Eric Lewis, Freddie Bryant, and Dwayne Burno.

Arlee currently travels the world, receiving praise from critics and audiences alike, headlining in Europe, Asia, Canada and across the U.S. Arlee maintains home bases in both New York City and New Orleans, and has performed at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, JVC Jazz Festival, and at the major clubs in both New Orleans and New York City.

PATRIZIA SCASCITELLI created a sensation in her native Italy when she broke through the glass ceiling to become Italy's first prominent female jazz musician. After conquering Europe with a remarkable run of concert and festival performances, recordings, and television appearances, pianist-composer Patrizia moved to New York City and quickly established herself as an in-demand pianist in the jazz capital of the world.

Patrizia's career includes performances with Don Cherry, David “Fathead" Newman, Maxine Sullivan and others, and she has appeared in major jazz festivals, jazz clubs, and concert venues throughout the U.S. and abroad. Her growing international reach is signified by the 2009 release in Japan of one of her previous records, Vedette (Nature Bliss Records.) “Patrizia is a marvelous melodist who presents her attractive lines with a distinct clarity and strong feeling," says veteran jazz writer and producer Ira Gitler.

The Patrizia Scascitelli Sextet recently released Open Window (Piloo Records.) The band features flutist Jamie Baum, trumpeter David Smith, trombonist Andy Hunter, bassist Bob Bowen, and drummer Sylvia Cuenca. The CD also features solo spots by saxophonist Ada Rovatti. Open Window was named one of the best CDs of 2009 by Musica Jazz, the top jazz publication in Italy, which also has twice named Patrizia “Musician of the Year."

The story of Patrizia's meteoric rise to fame in Italy is the subject of a chapter in music critic W. Royal Stokes' book, Growing Up With Jazz: 24 Musicians Talk About Their Lives and Careers. Stokes has praised her “flair for composition, pianistic prowess, and skills of leadership," and has called Patrizia “The Mary Lou Williams of Italian Jazz."

JAMIE BAUM is one of the finest jazz flutists in the world and a composer of groundbreaking original works. Her critically acclaimed CDs include 2008's Solace, (Sunnyside Records) which was listed among the best jazz releases of the year in Downbeat, Jazz Times and the Village Voice. In its four-star review of the album, French magazine Jazzman called Solace “a remarkable disc." Jamie's brilliance on flute is regularly recognized in the Downbeat Critics' Poll, the Jazz Journalists Association Awards, and many others.

The Jamie Baum Septet is the only group in jazz today with the inventive instrumentation of flute, French horn (Chris Komer), bass clarinet/alto sax (Douglas Yates), trumpet (Ralph Alessi), piano/electric piano (George Colligan), bass (Johannes Weidenmueller), and drums (Jeff Hirshfield.) All About Jazz said of a recent live performance, “The experience was nothing short of extraordinary...it was enough to leave me breathless and wanting more,"

Jamie studied with two of the greatest flutists in jazz history, Hubert Laws and Dave Liebman, and with pianist Jaki Byard. She currently co-leads a repertory ensemble, Yard Byard, performing Byard's music. Jamie's recordings as a bandleader have featured jazz trumpet stars Randy Brecker and Dave Douglas, and she has performed with the bands of the great George Russell and many other popular artists.

Jamie has served as a U.S. State Department Jazz Ambassador for multiple tours, and has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and Meet the Composer. Among her career highlights are performances at the JVC Jazz Festival New York, Bermuda Jazz Festival, Barcelona's Terrassa Jazz Festival and Jazz India.
