Special Guest Artist Irene Aebi, Lacy's Widow and Frequent Collaborator, Featured on Both Concerts

Celebrating the life and art of soprano saxophone great Steve Lacy, New England Conservatory jazz groups will feature several Lacy compositions on concerts, October 28 and December 6. Vocalist Irene Aebi, Lacy's widow and frequent collaborator, will perform on both concerts. Both performances are free and open to the public.

On October 28, the NEC Jazz Orchestra will perform Lacy's Precipitation Suite, Itinerary, Sweet Sixteen and Worms. On December 6, NEC students making up the Jazz Composers Ensemble will present the U.S. premiere of Lacy's Futurities, a song cycle based on the poetry of Robert Creeley. This work was composed specifically with Aebi's voice in mind and Lacy commented that the musical setting was made possible by the instrumental colorations of Aebi's vocal palette. Of the 20 songs that make up the work, Lacy stated, “...It starts in early morning and goes to the night; that's one cycle. There's another cycle having to do with being young and getting older..."
