Rising East African singer/songwriter Somi returns to Joe's Pub on Saturday, January 13th, 2007 at 9PM to perform music from her sophomore album, Red Soil In My Eyes (Harmonia Mundi, 2007).

Originally from Rwanda and Uganda, Somi celebrates her East African heritage while staying true to soul and jazz traditions. Somi has worked with the likes of Roy Hargrove, Amel Larrieux, Lionel Loueke, and Lonnie Plaxico. With praise from Hugh Masekela, Cheik Tidiane Seck, and the generous sponsorship of the International French Cultural Center, Somi and her band were selected to tour 15 African countries in 2006. Her mellifluous voice flows over, through, and in between nuances of urban jazz, downtempo soul, and African folk. With musical director Herve Samb (David Murray, Pharaoh Sanders), Somi and her ferociously beautiful acoustic band continue to captivate audiences worldwide while they create musical textures that are at once haunting and sweet, subtle yet profound. Reservations are strongly recommended.

This performance features Somi (voice), Herve Samb (guitar), Toru Dodo (piano), Massimo Biolcati (bass), and Daniel Moreno (percussion).

$20 at the door or at www.joespub.com or at 212.539.8770

Joe's Pub is located at 425 Lafayette between Astor Place and East 4th Street in New York City.
