Music services of all kinds are being funded and launched with some showing early if mixed signs of success and others appearing doomed to assured failure. One of the more interesting efforts underway is Neil Young's Pono project aka PonoMusic aka PONO that combines a unique music player with audio files created from studio masters. Young definitely gets an “A" for this Audacious effort.

Neil Young and Pono are promising to bring incredibly high quality digital music via an interesting looking device (shown above) to music lovers everywhere.

There's been much speculation along the way. Recently revelations and renewed speculation set the stage for news from Young.

In a Facebook post this week Neil Young spoke for Team PONO regarding their progress:

Launch Date: Early 2014.

Reason: This is how musicians want you to hear their music.

Source: Artist-approved studio masters.

Features: Primal power, bright reality, wonderfully rendered detail.

Audience: All music lovers.

To sum things up:

“Our mission is also to make PONO just as accessible as any music you buy and listen to today. So we'll be launching both the PONO portable player - an updated version of the one I showed on David Letterman's program - and an online library, with all your favorite music available in PonoMusic quality. Everything you need to feel music anew."

Should be an interesting launch. I'm looking forward to seeing which musicians are enlisted for that campaign.
