ST. LOUIS, MO—Music for Lifelong Achievement (MFLA) has wrapped up a successful instrument drive for Horns to Havana, a non-profit organization based out of The Center For Cuban Studies in New York City. The drive, which took place from February through May, garnered seventeen instruments including a trumpet, saxophone, keyboard, three guitars, three trombones, four flutes and four clarinets.

Music for Lifelong Achievement was the first organization in the country to partner with Horns to Havana on this important project, the goal of which is to provide a full set of jazz band instruments to each of four Cuban schools: Manuel Saumell Conservatory, Amadeo Roldan Conservatory, Guillermo Tomas Bouffaratigue Music Conservatory and Esccuela Nacional de Arte.

Diane Raines Ward of Horns to Havana says, “All of us at Horns to Havana are grateful for the participation of The Sheldon's marvelous MFLA program in our instrument drive. Seventeen horns is almost a full orchestra and, with a few additional donations, we now have 26 instruments to donate to the students of Manuel Saumell Conservatory in Havana. We could not be more pleased and look forward to a long friendship with The Sheldon, not only Horns to Havana but with our Cuban music academies and students."

“Music is a universal language that brings people together." says Sheldon Executive Director, Paul Reuter. “We hope that, through the generous donations of these instruments from the St. Louis community, young musicians in Cuba will now have a way to develop their musical skills and creative talents."

The Center for Cuban Studies is a non-profit, tax exempt educating institution in New York City with a national member ship base. Founded in 1972, it is dedicated to providing information about contemporary Cuba and contributing to a normalization of relations between Cuba and the United States. The Center serves as a vital communication link between the U.S. and Cuba through its publications, organized travel to Cuba, lectures and film series, exchange programs and art projects.

The mission of Music For Lifelong Achievement, a non-profit organization based at the Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis, Missouri, is to “Keep the Music Playing" in the lives of young people throughout St. Louis and the Metro area. MFLA seeks donations of used and new musical instruments, then donates the instruments to local school and community music programs serving disadvantaged students. Music for Lifelong Achievement also raises funds for instrument repair and musical accessories.
