Motéma Music Label Launch with The Babatunde Lea Quintet & The Lynne Arriale Trio

SOURCE: Published:
In celebration of their label launch, Motéma Music, a new label promoting Jazz, World Beat, Dance, and other creative music - requests your presence at the Jazz Standard, beginning tomorrow, for four VERY special nights.

The launch kicks off on Thursday with the great Drummer/Percussionist BABATUNDE LEA. “Tunde" has summoned the spirit of rhythm in the company of Pharoah Sanders, Stan Getz, McCoy Tyner, Randy Weston and many other jazz and world beat luminaries. With his latest release, Soul Pools, Tunde leads an all-star cast creating sounds of uncommon passion, depth and musicality. Tunde plays a rich and powerful brew of straight-ahead jazz, infused with African and Latin rhythms. Coming off a HOT West Coast tour - including sold out performances at Rassella's and packed Frisco Virgin in-store - these dates also mark the first NYC appearance of Ernie Watts in many years.

With the release of her new recording, Arise (#17 Billboard debut), LYNNE ARRIALE is poised to take her place among the best-selling and most compelling jazz pianists today. Arise follows the trio's sensational CD Inspiration, which hit #1 on US Jazz Radio, #1 on 'Best CD's of 2002' list in the New Yorker, #1 Best Jazz CD of 2002 - German Critics Association and gained praise internationally. This week alone, Lynne has hit #3 on the Jazz charts and rising!
