When Michael Brecker passed away on January 13th of 2007 he left a legion of admiring fans and more masterful recordings and live performances than most any musician of his day. During the hour of this week's show you'll hear Michael alongside his brother Randy with the Brecker Brothers as well as in the band that backed up Frank Zappa for a Halloween concert in New York. Plus you'll hear him in Japan with his supergroup Steps Ahead and in the band that celebrated Jaco Pastorius's birthday in 1981 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. What Is Time"," followed by the Dutch brother duo of Paul & Marc Van Wageningen, AKA The VW Brothers, with “Muziek." Every Friday beginning at 7 AM until midnight Eastern time we'll begin each hour with a classic piece of Jazz Fusion history with our special feature we call IF IT'S FRIDAY, THIS MUST BE FUSION. This week we'll continue a week celebration of the birthday of Michael Brecker on Monday, March 29th, with a special feature we call “THE BRECKER BROTHERS GREATEST FUSION HITS." When Randy Brecker was putting together a band for a solo project, record executive Steve Backer told him he'd sign the band on the spot if he called it The Brecker Brothers. An instant Fusion supergroup was formed with a roster filled with Randy & Michael and a host of New York hotshots like David Sanborn, Don Grolnick, George Duke, Steve Khan, Will Lee, Hiram Bullock, Marcus Miller, Steve Gadd and many more who brought New York style and Philly funk together in what became known as Heavy Metal BeBop. It's “THE BRECKER BROTHERS GREATEST FUSION HITS," on this week's edition of IF IT'S FRIDAY, THIS MUST BE FUSION.

This Saturday we'll salute one of the greats of MOJA as we present our weekly feature WORDS & MUSIC on MOJA Radio this one titled “REMEMBERING MICHAEL BRECKER!" From his beginnings in Philadelphia, his arrival in New York, his collaboration with brother Randy in The Brecker Brothers, his dynamic solo career and his many collaborations as a special guest and sideman no one in the past half-century has done more with his unique talent and a tenor saxophone than the great Michael Brecker. You'll hear his own words as well as those of brother Randy, and friends and associates Pat Metheny, Mike Mainieri and Steve Khan. Interview segments followed by music will begin each hour from Noon through Midnight Eastern time (9 AM-9 PM Pacific). Join us for “REMEMBERING MICHAEL BRECKER," on this week's WORDS & MUSIC.
