This Friday, Jan. 15, The Shinnyo Center for Meditation and Well-being will welcome the critically-acclaimed global jazz performance group, the Mehmet Polat Trio, to the United States, for a special transatlantic session of its ongoing Jazz Meditation series.

The Mehmet Polat Trio will accompany a Shinnyo Center meditation guide to lead the audience in a short, music-infused meditation before a performance. The Mehmet Polat Trio is a spiritual yet adventurous group consisting of three virtuosos of the ney, kora and ud instruments. With roots in the Ottoman, ancient Anatolian, Balkan and West African music traditions, their original compositions are infused with daring improvisations based in classical, jazz and other Western genres. The Mehmet Polat Trio’s performance at The Shinnyo Center provides a rare opportunity for New Yorkers to experience the sound of their unique blend of instruments and musical traditions.

The Shinnyo Center’s Jazz Meditation series is led by an experience guide, whose clear, spoken instructions allow attendees to relax their minds and physical selves, while enjoying the live jazz music performance.

The Mehmet Polat Trio will be performing this Friday, Jan. 15 at 7pm. Tickets to attend are $15, and can be purchased online or at The Center prior to the Jazz Meditation.

Friday, January 15, 2016, at 7:00 p.m.
