On November 13th, the brazilian drummer and composer Mauricio Zottarelli performs with his group at the Blue Note in New York City. The band will be presenting his original music as well as some of his inventive arrangements.

Zottarelli has been actively performing and contributing with some of the most preeminent artists in the Jazz, Latin/Brazilian and Fusion circles. Aside from his recent collaborations and performances with brazilian legend Dom Salvador, jazz pianist Hiromi's group SonicBloom, and also jazz/brazilian pianist Eliane Elias, he is also working on getting his own music heard. His new release, the CD entitled “7 Lives," has been receiving great praise from the press and the jazz community both in the USA and abroad.

On Saturday November 13th, the band will play their debut show at the world most famous jazz club, the Blue Note in NYC.

The music on “7 Lives" —This project explores even more Mauricio's versatility and musicality, and also showcases him from a different perspective: as a composer and bandleader. “I always wanted to have my own group, and to write my own songs," says Mauricio. “In one way or another this has been in the works since I started to get serious about music. It has been an amazing experience to be able to create this music and to have these fantastic musicians perform it. I couldn't be happier with the results."

The goal of the project is to blend Brazilian-jazz, fusion, and Jazz into one unique sound. On his original compositions, Mauricio works on combining different harmonic ideas, polyrhythmic patterns and grooves, and interesting melodies into something original and modern.

The CD features many admired and respected names in the Jazz and Latin/Brazilian music scenes: Gustavo Assis-Brasil (guitar), Itaiguara Brandao (eletric bass), Milene Corso (vocals), Brandi Disterheft (acoustic bass), Dom Salvador (piano), Oriente Lopez (piano, flutes), Esperanza Spalding (acoustic bass), Cidinho Teixeira (piano) and Rodrigo Ursaia (saxophone).
