Kent, CT--World-renowned drummer, Matt Wilson has been appointed the first Artist-in-Residence to mark the 15th anniversary of the Litchfield Jazz Festival, August 6th--8th in Kent, CT. In this role Matt will be a presence for the Festival throughout the year, giving clinics around the state and a Christmas concert in Kent celebrating the release of his latest album. Wilson will appear at the Festival on Friday, August 6th at 9:15 PM alongside vocalist Denise Thimes, and on Saturday August, 7th at 7:00 PM with the Cannonball Adderley Tribute band. With these appearances he wins the title of the most-often-presented artist ever at the Litchfield Jazz Festival--16 times in 15 years!

Wilson is perhaps the busiest drummer on the jazz scene, performing not only with his own Quartet and his Arts & Crafts Ensemble, but with collaborators ranging from the newest and youngest on the scene to legends like Charlie Haden, Elvis Costello, Lee Konitz, Wynton Marsalis, among others.

On Saturday, August 7th Wilson will host Artist Talks--first with jazz legend, pianist Dave Brubeck at 1:00 PM, and then with the celebrated bassist, Mario Pavone at 8:00 PM. Dave Brubeck, designated a “Living Legend" by the Library of Congress, continues to be one of the most active and popular musicians in the jazz world. The Festival's 15th Anniversary honors Mr. Brubeck, who turns 90 this year, for the magnificent artist and humanitarian he is.

Mario Pavone appears this year at the Festival with his Orange Double Tenor Sextet, performing his Arc Suite, commissioned by Chamber Music America and the Doris Duke Foundation. Mr. Pavone also has a long history with the Festival having performed seven times prior and teaching at Litchfield Jazz Camp since 1998. Brubeck will appear on the festival on Friday, August 6th with his Quartet at 7:45 PM and Pavone with his sextet on Saturday, August 7th at 5:15 PM.

Matt Wilson will also moderate and add spice to clinics by festival stars performing on Saturday, August 7th--Peruvian trumpeter and musicologist, Gabriel Alegria, the young Grammy-nominated pianist Gerald Clayton, and saxophonist and long-time member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Wess Anderson. All clinics and artist talks are open to Festival ticket holders free of charge.
