"[Matt's] playing and writing are both sophisticated and fluent." —Chris de Saram, Wakefield Jazz

Following on from their highly acclaimed regional tour in spring 2011 supported by the Jazz Yorkshire 'Futures' scheme, the Matt Anderson Quartet have recorded and released a self-titled sampler CD of original material, available to download on a 'pay-what-you-like' basis from bandcamp.com.

The quartet in its current form was set up by Leeds, UK-based saxophonist Matt Anderson in 2010 following his graduation from Leeds College of Music. In the same year, Matt was awarded 'Young Musician of the Year' at the Jazz Yorkshire Awards. The quartet's first recording together was sponsored by Jazz Yorkshire through their 'Futures' scheme, which aims to help up-and-coming musicians from the region as they develop their careers as jazz musicians.

Most of the musicians involved in the recording as well as some of the compositions will also be appearing in a new quintet project commissioned by Creative North Yorkshire in the autumn of this year. This new work, Matt Anderson Quintet—'Songs of the Ridings,' aims to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Yorkshire, and performances include Scarborough Jazz Festival (25th Sep.), Pave Caf, Hull (2nd Oct.), Matt n' Phreds, Manchester (11th Oct.) and the 7arts Centre, Leeds (16th Oct.).
