Mark Walker
Mark A. Walker, whose artistry on bass has been heard on the Grammy, Stellar, and Dove award winning recordings of master pianist/composer Richard Smallwood, Shirley Caesar, Vickie Winans, and Yolanda Adams, stepped out of the background with the release of his debut CD “Forever Yours". At Washington, DCs trendy Zanzibar On the Waterfront, patrons had the pleasure of celebrating with Mark at a pre-release concert on July 28.

Co-produced by Los Angeles based keyboardist/writer Tim Carmon (who includes Eric Clapton and B.B. King, and Babyface among his impressive credits), the project's moving compositions are simply fantastic. Walker offers up 12 tracks of inspirational jazz that demonstrate his love of the instrument, from the first song to the last. Walker performs with a drummer's flair of timing, style, and offers a uniquely compelling fusion of gospel and jazz. He also proves that one can be equally impressive and disciplined whether in the shadows or the spotlight. Walker, who quickly confesses that he doesn't consider himself a singer, even serves up pleasant vocals on the opening track “He Cares".

Additional personnel featured on the CD include, saxophonist Kevin Levi, drummers Jay Williams and Andre “Blues" Webb, and guitarist Alvin White.

Mark performed with Richard Smallwood for the 1997 Barbados World Gospel Festival, The Federation Francaise de Gospel / Best of Gospel on Tour" in Paris and Strasbourg, and the “Amerique: Gospel Cite de la Musique" in Paris, France in 1998. He also performed during the Umbria Jazz Gospel and Soul Easter Festivals 1 and 2 in Terni, Italy.

Lately, Walker has been lending his skills to studio work with Philadelphia producer/composer Steven Ford, and live performances with Smallwood (and his ensemble Vision), awesome vocalist Will Downing, and masterful sax man, Gerald Albright.

“Forever Yours" released on the independent MPM label is now available online at CDBaby and Tower Records.
