Malachi Thompson's Legendary Freebop Band Plays The Velvet Lounge on August 25

Trumpeter Malachi Thompson and his Freebop Band, will play at the Velvet Lounge August 25, for two sets starting at 10:00pm. The Freebop Band, which features lumanaries Gary Bartz on alto and soprano saxophones, and Billy Harper on tenor saxophone, has been a Chicago staple for over twenty years. Malachi's style which combines elements of be-bop and free improvisation has garnered international attention with the release of his most recent CD for the Delmark record label, titled Rising Daystar, which reached #2 on the Jazziz radio chart as well as #4 on the CMJ chart indicating substantial radio attention.
