Rosen describes his first full-length offering as being "a musical celebration of the interconnectedness of all people and places. The songs are by themselves their own universe," he says, "but at the same time they are all connected to the idea of togetherness, and to forming one beautiful, magical entity".
With influences like Sam Cooke, John Coltrane, and The Beatles, Rosen is aware of the amount of heart that goes into creating music, and delivers just that on Into the Sky.
On the album, Rosen offers up an array of musical instruments including guitar, Rhodes piano, upright and electric bass, and synths, as well as his vocals on three tracks. Contributing piano, violin, viola and upright bass to the album is performer, producer and arranger Miguel Atwood-Ferguson (Ray Charles/John Cale/Flying Lotus).
Chuck full of melodic tunes, Into the Sky forms a solid backdrop for Rosen's musical journey. With the track "Winter Into Spring" he delivers a folksy and fun tune that uses his ex-girlfriend as inspiration, while the original title track, "For People" has been best described as "hauntingly Alice Coltrane with a twist of Leonard Cohen".
There is currently a West Coast tour in the works for Rosen to support Into the Sky this fall.
