Cover $10 www.ziryab.org SKYE STEELE GROUP (Skye Steele, violin;Christopher Hoffman, cello;Mike Effenberger, piano;Mike Savino, bass;John Hadfield, drums/percussion) Skye Steele's group bears the mark of its leader's strong balance between the eclecticism of his experiences as a side-man and the strident individualism of his approach to the violin. His arrangements bring American popular songs of his own generation crashing head-on with influences ranging from Turkish Gypsy music, to Afro-Brazilian, to French Impressionism, all with a rigorous Modern Jazz aesthetic (he taps Simon and Garfunkle, Sesame Street, Satie, and Willie Wonka). Skye's own compositions combine driving, angular rhythms and darkly nuanced harmonies with an infectious sense of lyricism. “My goal is always to engage and transport the people with every tune and every solo."

“Steele makes his instrument sing joyously" - Frank Rubolino, Cadence Magazine
