Live from Lincoln Center Presents "An Evening with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis"

Tune in to PBS on Thursday, March 26 at 8:00 pm for Live From Lincoln Center featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis at Frederick P. Rose Hall after an extensive and highly acclaimed national tour. Specially selected by Mr. Marsalis, Jazz at Lincoln Centers Artistic Director, the band will perform music theyve played through the ages and the world over: favorite tunes from the bands expansive repertoire including original compositions by members of the band. The St. Louis Post Dispatch called the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra “...one of the strongest, swingingest bands in the land."

Jazz musician, trumpeter, composer, bandleader, advocate for the arts and educator, Wynton Marsalis has helped propel jazz to the forefront of American culture in his role as Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center and as an acclaimed artist. His prominent position in American culture was solidified in April 1997, when he became the first jazz artist to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize in music for his work Blood on the Fields, which was commissioned by Jazz at Lincoln Center. He has served as the world-renowned arts organization's artistic director as well as music director of the resident big band, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, since its inception in 1987.

Jazz at Lincoln Center is dedicated to inspiring and growing audiences for jazz. With the world-renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and a comprehensive array of guest artists, Jazz at Lincoln Center advances a unique vision for the continued development of the art of jazz by producing a year-round schedule of performance, education and broadcast events for audiences of all ages. These productions include concerts, national and international tours, residencies, yearly hall of fame inductions, weekly national radio and television programs, recordings, publications, an annual high school jazz band competition and festival, a band director academy, jazz appreciation curriculum for students, music publishing, childrens concerts, lectures, adult education courses, student and educator workshops and interactive websites. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis, Chairman Lisa Schiff and Executive Director, Adrian Ellis, Jazz at Lincoln Center will produce nearly 3,000 events during its 2008-09 season in its home in New York City, Frederick P. Live From Lincoln Center is in its 33rd broadcast season. The series has received 13 Emmy Awards, most recently for this year's broadcast of New York City Opera's Madama Butterfly. Produced by Lincoln Centers John Goberman, this series has made the world's greatest artists on Lincoln Centers renowned stages accessible to home viewers in virtually every corner of the United States. It remains the only series of live telecast performances on American television today.
