Live Canadian Jazz and Blues in Brampton - Aria Bistro & Lounge

John Calvert, owner of one of Flowertown's largest greenhouse estates, built his home in 1927, at the height of the Jazz Age. The cozy dining rooms offer a wonderful place to eat dinner before moving upstairs to the Royale Room for dessert and digestif to hear the exquisite sounds of the featured musicians.

Brampton's own Jazz star, Brownman Ali and his Akoustic Trio starts the live music series on Friday February 26 and Saturday February 27, 2010. Called Canada's pre-eminent Jazz trumpeter by NYC's Village Voice, Brownman will be returning home after months of touring with Gurus Jazzmatazz to revisit the 1930s 1960s la Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Joe Henderson and Duke Ellington CLASSICS. He was voted Toronto's Best Jazz Artist in 2005.

On Friday March 5 and Saturday March 6, 2010, Queen Bee Events and Promotions presents Laura Hubert, who prefers to think of herself as a singer of old songs. That term perfectly describes her eclectic repertoire of Blues and Jazz standards that she delivers with passion and style. Accompanied by the solid, swinging piano of Peter Hill and band, she is reveling in the opportunity to re-interpret classics by her most admired singers, from the classic blues of Bessie Smith to the full-throated ballads of Dinah Washington. Those old songs have never sounded better.

Beverly Taft's sweet voice will grace the Royale Room on Friday March 12 and Saturday March 13, 2010. Leading her own straight ahead and swinging Jazz combo, she will breathe new life into some old standards that's sure to satisfy all tastes. She has performed throughout Ontario, as well as in Japan, and in select cities in the U.S. Her CD has been played on nearly 100 radio stations in over 35 countries as well as CBC and Jazz FM 91.

As part of the Royale Room Blues Series, on Friday March 19 and Saturday March 20, 2010, Paul Reddick takes is inspiration from the early American Blues in the vein of Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson and Howlin Wolf. He formed the ground- breaking Blues band The Sideman in Toronto in 1990 and has released 3 albums of original material. He has been nominated for the Juno Awards, and the W.C. Handy Awards and has won 3 Maple Blues Awards, including Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.

Fireside Jazz Series presents Richard Underhill's warm, wonderful alto sax sound next on the calendar on Friday March 26 and Saturday March 27, 2010. His great writing and arranging skills and in-from-the-outside soloing make him one of Canada's most distinctive Jazz performers. Richard won a 2003 Juno Award for his Jazz solo debut Tales from the Blue Lounge and was nominated for the Prix du Jazz at the Festival du Jazz de Montreal in the same year. His new album Moment in Time is a fan favorite and has garnered critical acclaim.

Paul James is up next on the Royale Room Blues Series, Friday April 2 and Saturday April 3, 2010. He is a Canadian cultural icon and has played with Bob Dylan, Bo Diddley, John Hammond and Mink DeVille, to name a few. He won a Juno in the Best Roots and Traditional Music Category and was nominated for 2010 Maple Blues Lifetime Achievement Award. He is generally acknowledged as one of Canada's finest R and B guitarist. He will be bringing his solo acoustic show to fill the room with his soulful Blues sound.

Chef Alberto and Lisa Ferrari have owned 485 Main Street North for 13 years, taking over Bassano's Ristorante formerly Chez Marie. Their fine dining Italian restaurant has been recently renovated and the name changed to Aria Bistro and Lounge. The same great service and superb house-made cuisine in the beautiful surroundings of this historic house is the perfect place for a cozy diner a deux, or an intimate gathering of friends. Reservations are strongly recommended as seats are limited.
