Liberty Ellman, one of New Yorks most imaginative and unorthodox guitarist/composers, is best known for his collaborations with Greg Osby and Josh Roseman as well as being a member of Henry Threadgill's Zooid and Vijay Iyer and Mike Ladd's “In What Language" project. He has also performed with hip hop groups The Coup and Midnight Voices. Ellman employs a clean, unadorned sound, achieving rich timbral contrasts and an alluring sonic blend with Mark Shims (Stefan Harris, Drew Gress) weighty and gruff tenor sax. He crafts a dense polyrhythmic language and focuses the heated interaction with his undulating single-note lines and clich-free chording. Not to be missed.
