Karl Denson's Tiny Universe Will Perform a Free Concert at Checkpoint Charlie in Vail, Colo. on Fri., Feb. 19, 2010

VAIL, Colo. -- Vail Mountain in partnership with Highline Sports & Entertainment announced today that eclectic funk band Karl Denson's Tiny Universe will perform a free, outdoor concert on Fri., Feb. 19 as a part of Vail Mountain's annual Mardi Gras celebration, CarniVail. Known as the kings of the unstoppable dancing show, the Tiny Universe will take center stage at Checkpoint Charlie in Vail Village starting at 7 p.m.

Led by Karl Denson, who has collaborated with such luminaries as Lenny Kravitz, Fred Wesley and The Greyboy Allstars, the Tiny Universe blends elements of funk, jazz, R&B and hip hop, creating a dynamic sound that defies categorization and bringing forth a Delicious variety of groovy tunes ever sampled by a listener's feet.

“My style is based in dance," explains Karl Denson, lead vocalist and saxophonist of Tiny Universe. “I love the idea of creating something that naturally makes people want to move. I think all music has the ability to unite people."

The Tiny Universe show marks the second year Vail will offer a free concert as a part of the annual CarniVail celebration. Rounding out CarniVail's jam-packed schedule of events Feb. 14-19, the concert acts as the festival's final celebration.

“Offering a free concert to close-out CarniVail is now a continued tradition," says James Deighan of Highline Sports & Entertainment, the festival producer. “Karl Denson's Tiny Universe is a rockin' jam band and will put on an amazing show here in Vail. Their music is upbeat and festive and a perfect fit for CarniVail's free outdoor concert. I know they have an extensive Colorado following."

It's all part of the CarniVail festival, Vail's annual Mardi Gras festival held Sunday, February 14 through Saturday, February 19. Other CarniVail schedule highlights include a crawfish boil at Eagle's Nest, atop the Eagle Bahn Gondola, on Sunday, Feb. 14 and the legendary Fat Tuesday Parade and Street Party on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
