KANSAS CITY KNOWS ITS JAZZ!
Blues & Jazz Fest Returns with Bo Diddley

KANSAS CITY, KAN. - Hot Kansas City summers are giving way to cool jazz nights, as the 2006 Kansas City Music Blues & Jazz Festival takes shape. Show organizers have signed the legendary Bo Diddley to headline the popular Kansas City event, scheduled for Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 2-3 at The Woodlands, I-435 and Leavenworth Rd. in Kansas City, KS.

In addition to Diddley, the event will showcase 24 stellar musical acts over two days, including the band Proto-Kaw, the most recent incarnation of the members of the highly successful rock band, Kansas. Show organizers are prepped to fill the Woodland's 30,000 seats, which boasts one of the more comfortable music appreciation venues in the metro area.

“We've got Bo and we are on our way to rockin' this city over Labor Day weekend," says Mark Valentine, show organizer, founder and himself a professional musician. “We heard you Kansas City! You said you wanted the Blues & Jazz Fest back to where it belongs, and we're honoring your request."

Bo Diddley is truly one of the country's most “legendary" musicians, with more than 50 years in the music industry. His crucial role in the birth of Rock & Roll and his impact on the direction of popular music ever since has proven that he indeed has earned his title of “The Originator."

Alongside the plaque for his 1987 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Bo's mantelpiece has also become more crowded in recent years with numerous “lifetime achievement" awards presented at prestigious events, including the Rhythm & Blues Foundation's Pioneer Awards (1996), the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences' Grammy Awards (1998), and the National Association of Black-Owned Broadcasters' Communications Awards (2002).

According to Valentine, Saturday, Sept. 2nd is expected to draw the biggest crowd of the two-day concert event. For $17.50 per person, music lovers can spend the entire day mellowing to the sounds of blues and jazz from bands such as Moutin Reunion direct from Paris, France, The Latin Jazz All Stars, Baby Lee and the Kansas City All Stars and Fast Johnny Ricker.

“Where can you go and hear jazz greats all day long on less than $20?" asks Valentine. “And there's no charge to park your car."

The Woodlands is itself a draw for many who enjoy entertainment under their covered grandstand, secure parking and close proximity to the Legends, Kansas City's hottest new entertainment district.

Doors will open at 11 a.m. with opening acts getting underway at noon. The show will go on throughout the day and evening, until the last of the entertainers takes their final bow. Children under age 12 will be admitted for free; tickets can be obtained through TicketMaster at 816-931-3330.

Several sponsors are supporting the Blues & Jazz Fest, including State Farm Insurance, Southwest Airlines, Kansas Army National Guard, American Red Cross, Cumulus Broadcasting, Boulevard Beer, Jazz Louisiana Kitchen, Time Warner Cable, Big Dudes Music City, KCStory.com, Barley's 39th Street West, 3rd Friday Art Walks, The Woodlands, 810 Zone, The Blue Moose, Wyandotte County Visitors Bureau, 75th Street Brewery, Arthur Murray Dance Studios, Bacara, O'Dowds, Kansas City Blazers, Famous Dave's BBQ, DeMasters Insurance, Audio Port and Kansas City Kansas Street Blues Fest.
