Award-winning DC Composer & Saxophonist Jonathan Parker Brings His Octet To The Wonderland Ballroom
1101 Kenyon Street NW, Washington DC
December 17th at 8pm and 10 pm
Sets Will Feature Music From Parker's Upcoming Release INTERLOPER
New York, NY: On Wednesday, December 17th Jonathan Parker brings his octet to Washington DC's quintessential dive bar, The Wonderland Ballroom. Never one to shy away from presenting world-class music in unconventional settings, this past year has seen Parker feature his various musical projects in a wide array of DIY venues. The Jonathan Parker Octet's performance at the Wonderland Ballroom will be no different, as the ensemble will blaze through two sets of material featuring selections from Parker's upcoming release, Interloper (One Trick Dog records) as well as feature local entertainer Linsay Demming (from Black Cat's Church Night).
Interloper features Parker's writing and arranging for jazz octet. While firmly rooted in the post-bop tradition, Parker's writing and playing also draw influences from more contemporary sources. The result is a recording which pairs the sensitivity and finesse of a classical ensemble with the freedom and interplay of a modern jazz group.
The Wonderland Ballroom is located at 1101 Kenyon Street NW, Washington, DC, 20010. Set times are at 8pm and 10pm. Suggested donation at the door - $5.00. Phone: 202-232-5263.
