Jillz JekerJazz Festival in Maastricht (Netherlands) October 14-16, 2011

Down in the south of the Netherlands, bordering to Belgium and Germany, lies the city of Maastricht, a charismatic medieval town that functions as a major hub in the region for tourism, education, business and science. Along the river Meuse and the small river the Jeker, its connection to music is a diverse one. The annual music festival for more than two decades, JekerJazz, has returned to its original name only last year in 2010 and for the season of 2011 and upcoming events, a sponsor has been added: Jillz apple cider. An official and new foundation Stichting JekerJazz Maastricht has been launched at the end of August. They will maintain their goal of organizing an inner city jazz and music festival with various artists in various venues and at free admission.

This year's festival will take place in the weekend of October 14th to 16th. Young talent as well as seasoned musicians will perform around town. JekerJazz Maastricht has teamed up with Heerlen Jazzt and SLIMJazz, two significant organizations in the province of Limburg whose goal it is to offer quality jazz concerts and events. SLIMJazz will participate in this year's Jillz JekerJazz festival by sponsoring the concert of a young Dutch jazztrio, EarsWideOpen http://earswideopen.nl who receive outstanding critics for their fresh and creative sound blending various music influences and genres into a modern and improvised jazz idiom.They will close the festival with a concert in Cafe Forum, 19.00 hrs on Sunday 16 october.

Drummer Ron van Stratum will perform on Saturday with Groove Like Eddie, bringing funk fusion and groove to the stage.

There's 100 concerts at about 40 venues around town.
