Jazztopad Festival
Jazztopad Festival in Wroclaw, Poland, opens its doors this Friday, November 5th and will present a series of outstanding jazz concerts each weekend throughout the month.

Now in its seventh year, Jazztopad has quickly established a name for itself as one of the leading jazz festivals in Poland. Its reputation as a progressive, creative festival, however, goes far beyond Poland's borders, and the impressive roster of international artists who have performed here over the years is testament to the standing of the festival; previous editions have hosted the likes of Wayne Shorter, Bill Frisell, Kenny Wheeler, Manu Katche, and Terje Rypdal among others.

Specially comissioned programs have been one of the features of Jazztopad and this year is no exception, with U.K. saxophonist John Surman's trio collaborating with the Wroclaw Philharmonic in the World Premier of a piece entitled “Turbulence."

In addition, bass legend Gary Peacock—a member of Keith Jarrett's trio for the past twenty seven years—and pianist Marc Copeland combine in an exciting duet which will be a one-off European date.

For the second year, Jazztopad will host the JazzPlaysEurope Laboratory—an adventurous program which brings together some of the best young jazz talent from around Europe.

Other concerts not to be missed include Polish pianist Nikola Kolodziejczyk, a young musican who is attracting a lot of attention in Poland. He will be performing a new suite for big band written especially for Jazztopad Festival. The Charles Lloyd New Quartet, one of the most thrilling small jazz ensembles of recent years, will close the festival on the 27th.
