Jazzahead! Europe's Most Important Jazz Convention Announces Exciting Schedule: Bremen, Germany - April 28-May 1, 2011

New York—As the globalization of jazz continues, Germanyʼs jazzahead has become the premier meeting place for members of the jazz industry. It is an international gathering that serves as a networking opportunity and European portal for jazz enterprise. It brings together media, artists, labels, agents, buyers, sellers, and important jazz gatekeepers. jazzahead announces this yearʼs schedule, reinforcing its themes of industry unity.

The convention combines vital realms of the jazz industry, and offers a complete array of exhibitors and performers:

The international showcase festival offers stylistic diversity with evening presentations bundled into geographical theme nights, such as the German Night, Overseas Night and Turkish Night. In addition, the Club Night focuses on introducing 14 local venues. Throughout the day the European Jazz Meeting presents high quality showcases, during which musicians perform on two stages.

Past participants have included Joe Zawinul, John Scofield, Norma Winstone, Maceo Parker, John Taylor, Kenny Wheeler, Maria Joao and John McLaughlin.

For the first time ever, jazzahead will join forces with a cultural partner. This year the proud partner is Turkey , with a dedicated night of showcases. A special highlight will be Turkish superstar ((Sezen Aksu}} and her Acoustic Band, featuring Fahir Atakoglu.

All registered participants will have access to the Attorneyʼs Corner, a forum for professional advice on contracts, trademarks, event legislation and more. They can also enroll in Matchmaking Sessions, a forum designed to facilitate potential business partnerships in pre-scheduled meetings. This yearʼs cooperation with finetunes, a digital music distributor, will result in a special section on www.jazzshack.net, providing music downloads of all showcases.

The annual jazzahead Skoda Award recognizes important personalities in jazz. This year, top honors go to Claude Nobs, founder and general manager of the renowned Montreux Jazz Festival. The award ceremony will take place during the official opening festivities on April 29.

Founded in 2006, jazzahead can claim constant growth and expansion. In this yearʼs edition, the conventionʼs presentation area at the congress center will double in size, featuring more than 300 international exhibitors from 30 countries. 1800 professional participants are expected.

Bremen is a city-state in northern Germany. It is conveniently located one hour by car from Hamburg and 90 minutes from Hanover. It is a tourist destination, with many sights to see: the old city with its Unesco World Heritage landmarks of Town Hall and the Statue of Roland; the historic district of Schnoor; and the cityʼs magnificent port. Bremenʼs airport and train station offer easy connections to nearby German and European cities.
