Jazz Vocalist Sarah Lynch at 169 Bar Monday with Greg Skaff, Phil Palombi & Mark Ferber

SOURCE: Published:
New York City-based vocalist Sarah Lynch appears Monday, August 22nd at 169 Bar with Greg Skaff on guitar, Phil Palombi on bass, and Mark Ferber on drums.

Greg Skaff's latest CD, “Ellington Boulevard", is on the Zoho record label and has garnered critical praise. In addition to leading his own trio, he also works regularly with Bobby Watson, David “Fathead" Newman, and Gloria Lynne.

Bassist Phil Palombi, who plays both internationally and in New York, performs and records with such players as Toshiko Akiyoshi, Michael Brecker, Maynard Ferguson, Billy Hart, Dave Liebman, Chris Potter, Claudio Roditi, Lew Tabackin, Mark Turner, The Village Vanguard Orchestra, Chucho Valdes, Walt Weiskopf – and, of course, Curtis Stigers.

Drummer Mark Ferber, whose latest recording with the Alan Ferber Nonet, “Scenes From An Exit Row," exhibits his innovative and rich drum stylings, has distinguished himself on both coasts in live performances and recordings. A partial list of his playing credits include Billy Childs, Lee Konitz, Fred Hersch, Larry Goldings and Ralph Alessi.

When “Santa Baby” composer Phil Springer first heard Sarah Lynch sing, he likened her vocal quality to that of a trombone; Springer was the first to call Lynch “a young Peggy Lee” and went on to use her on tunes he penned in the ‘40s but had not yet recorded. You can hear Sarah Lynch apply this 1940s sass and sensibility to her fresh take on forgotten standards, as well as on her original tunes.

169 Bar is located at 169 East Broadway (East Broadway stop on the F train), and these guys will play the 8 o’clock set. $7 cover.
