COVID-19 and its impact represents an extraordinary and unprecedented time for us all. It has affected every person and every organization in jazz, disrupted our livelihoods, and we're all greatly concerned about the health and well-being of our community. Personally, I'm accustomed to working from home and have been doing so since 1995—but our network and touchpoints extend far beyond AAJ HQ.

As a central source for all things jazz, we are in constant communication with individuals representing all facets of our industry: from the artists and presenters to the countless folks who operate behind the scenes to promote the music we love. It is a scary and uncertain time for sure, but it is also a time for us to band together as a community and support one another.

All About Jazz will do its part and we have already taken steps to expand Jazz Near You to support livestream events. This means helping musicians and bands promote their scheduled livestreams when they upload their event information to Jazz Near You. Once uploaded, we will make them easily accessible to our readers, our weekly newsletter subscribers and our app users; building awareness and driving outbound traffic in the process.

Our short-term goal is to help musicians and bands promote their livestream events so they can generate revenue from ticket sales or tip-jar donations. Our long-range plan is to expand the portion of our platform that was developed to broadcast the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Concert at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC last April. This means adding functionality so we can regularly broadcast live events from All About Jazz and Jazz Near You.

These events will be heavily promoted. We'll sell tickets, we'll present the show, we'll offer access to on-demand viewing, and best of all, we'll provide another revenue stream for artists and venues. We believe this solution has potential to work and reward on a large scale, and we look forward to becoming a hub for live jazz online.

Getting started

Here are the steps to upload a livestream event. It's very much like uploading a standard event with the exception of checking an extra box and possibly selecting a different event type.

How to upload a livestream event

Click here to go to the Jazz Near You event submission form.

  • WHO STEP
    Check the “Will this event be livestreamed?" box;

    If you are presenting a livestream from your home, select the “Home Concert" type, otherwise, use the default, “Live Performance";

  • WHERE STEP
    If it's a home concert, complete the city information so Jazz Near You can also associate it with a region;

  • WHEN STEP
    Place the livestream link location in the “Ticket / Livestream link" box.
Once the information has been entered, click the green UPLOAD EVENT button and we'll take it from there.
