Renowned Artists Perform Jazz Interpretations of Famous Classical Works June 4

WASHINGTON, DC: Jazz Meets the Classics, a collaboration between the DC Jazz Festival (DCJF) and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, will feature an all- star lineup performing unique and exciting jazz interpretations of works by Bach, Chopin, Mozart, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky. The show will be held Monday, June 4 at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall as part of the 8th annual Festival, which takes place June 1- 10.

“The DC Jazz Festival and The Kennedy Center have collaborated for the past eight years to bring enriching and entertaining jazz performances to residents and visitors of Washington, D.C.,” said DC Jazz Festival Executive Producer Charles Fishman. “The ground- breaking Jazz Meets the Classics demonstrates how artists can fuse two remarkable musical genres, jazz and classical, through creativity and virtuosity.”

Headlining the concert is the Classical Jazz Quartet, with NEA Jazz Masters bassist Ron Carter and pianist Kenny Barron, vibraphonist Stefon Harris and drummer Lewis Nash. Also headlining is DC Jazz Festival Co-Artistic Director, NEA Jazz Master and 10-time Grammy Award-winner Paquito D'Rivera, joined by Michael Philip Mossman, Pernell Saturnino, Mark Walker, Alex Brown and Zach Brown.

“The Kennedy Center is thrilled to continue its collaboration with the DC Jazz Festival and Paquito D'Rivera,” said Kennedy Center Vice President of Education and Jazz Darrell Ayers. “It is especially exciting to do so with this concert, which brings together artists from all over the world and uses the art of jazz to expose D.C. audiences to this wonderful music.”
