Creole Restaurant and Music Supper Club Continues to Invigorate the Harlem Jazz Scene

Named “… best jazz pianist of his generation… ” in Time Magazine, Cyrus Chestnut is known for his imaginative, inventive style and his profound sense of the history and language of Jazz. He has performed and/or recorded with everyone from Jon Hendricks, Wynton Marsalis and Betty Carter to Bette Midler and Freddie Hubbard. His leadership and prowess as a soloist have led him to be first choice for the piano chair in many big bands including the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Dizzy Gillespie Big Band and Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra. Today, with his trio (Michael Hawkins, bass and Neal Smith, drums), he thrills audiences with his accomplished jazz interpretations of standards, gospel tunes, pop numbers, and original compositions. His recordings have received wide acclaim and topped the jazz charts.

Juneteenth Day is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.

Creole is known for its bright management, quality food and music and for bringing Jazz and R&B back uptown. Located in the heart of East Harlem, its ambiance is reminiscent of the nostalgic era of jazz supper clubs that spawned careers of countless jazz and blues artists who went on to make history. At Creole, one is immediately comforted by warmth and hospitality, as well as international cuisine, which features dishes such as blackened spice catfish, sweet potato beignets, and 20 variations of classic gumbo. Proprietor Kevin Walters prides himself on this unique environment that marries art, music, culture, entertainment, food and a sense of community in one location.
