There is music in his blood, this nattily attired gentleman from Atlanta, GA. In fact, music is such a significant part of his body chemistry that he has named himself after it: 2unes.

And there's no false advertising in that stage handle, either. The latest album from 2unes, Loving 2, is track after track of deliciously melodic song craft. In fact, the hooks are as catchy and memorable as his name. It's not easy producing an album that actually exceeds the high expectations of its ingenious marketing, but that's exactly what Loving 2 accomplishes.

Playing guitar since 1966, 2unes' style connects the dots that separate jazz, funk, blues, and soul; he liberally incorporates all of them in his arsenal. On “Upside Down Funk," 2unes stitches together sweltering jazz with bluesy riffing; the combination of the two creates as sound that fulfills the rhythmic attack promised by its appellation yet also cuts deep into 2unes' emotional core. In other words, style and substance walk—or should that be strut?—hand in hand.

Because of the number in his name, and in the title of the CD, some may assume that 2unes' music is similar to Prince's. While the influence is definitely there, it's not easily noticeable. Yes, a track called “Hip-Hug her" could be mistaken for a Paisley Park product if simply read on the track listing; however, 2unes' grooves leans towards jazz even when his electric guitars rip through the speakers. But that doesn't mean jazz is the only language in his musical vocabulary. According to 2unes, R&B, rock & roll, hip-hop, and acid rock are among the other genres that he is able to toy with. “I spent a lot to time back in the days listening to 45's and LP's of all different types of music," 2unes revealed. That eclectic background is at the forefront of Loving 2.
